If you haven’t got your Lohei Night tickets yet, this Sunday is a great time to get them.
Tickets will still be available over the LNY opening (24th evening and 25th), but it gets busy and confusing, so beat the rush.
If you just want individual seats and not a full table, Alice and Vivien are putting those together now, so chat to them and they can help you form a table.
Due to rising costs, we’ve had to adjust the pricing of the Miracle and Miracle Gold incense from $18 per carton to $20. We’ll try to hold this price as long as possible. Both varieties are currently available at the Shrine.
There has been a change in the date that the Shrine will reopen post-Vesak. It was previously published as Sunday 16th, but please note that we will now be opening on Sunday 9th June.
If you have marked your calendar with other opening dates leading up to Deepavali, these have all shifted by one week. The website event calendar has the updated correct dates.
The Essence of right concentration stems from the heart. The motivation must come from you. It is only you who can and must make the effort to practice right concentration during your lifetime.
With the same “one heart” that I have taught you at the beginning of this series of discussion, you exercise mindfulness and focus single pointedly, while training your body and speech through the guidelines I have shared in your Member Guidebook.
Deeply steeped in determination and through single-pointed concentration you will gain deeper understanding of emptiness and the reality of life.
有念必有定 Mindfulness And Concentration
念念不忘,身心乃定。 一心念佛,即见如来。
Practice mindfulness and the mind naturally calms
With a calm mind, focus on the Buddha and He shall appear
Practice mindfulness as you go about your day. Every task can be enjoyable or mundane, its all up to your mind. If you perceive it as a chore, it becomes one. And when you think its enjoyable, it brings you joy. With the right frame of mind, you carry out your task mindfully, training your mind to remain focus. This will aid you in developing deeper concentration later.
Begin practicing with a simple mental focus on the image of the Buddha for 15 minutes each time. This is a good way for both young and old. Later on, you can use sutra/mantra as an object of concentration.
正定能解除一切烦恼。
Right concentration eliminates all worries.
别再犹豫,立刻练习,训练你的注意力。 到了大限自日,你也不会手足无措。
Practice now, train your mind. When the end comes, you are prepared.

We’ve filled in our online calendar with the opening dates for the remainder of 2019, along with the dates for Vesak and our Dharma & Meditation nights.
Our annual Lohei Night is always a lot of fun. Along with the 8-course dinner and auspicious yusheng there are always unexpected (and entertaining) surprises.
Tickets go on sale this Sunday and the date for next year is Saturday, 16 February. The theme next year is International Costume. Apparently that is definitely NOT shorts, slippers and a Hard Rock Café t-shirt for Singapore, so you will have to do better! Best costumes win prizes!
Tables are limited, so get your tickets early. If you can’t make it to the Shrine you can email or whatsapp Vivien (9737 3822) or Alice (9834 5569).
If you haven’t put your name down for the Post-Vesak Thank You Mooncake Party yet, we’re now finalising the food and drinks so please let Alice (9834 5569) know you’re coming and how many family members you are bringing.
This year we’ve got old-school games, so come and show off your mis-spent youth and see whether you’ve still got your skills.
All members, family and helpers are invited, it’s free and there will be a buffet and mooncakes.
